Getting to Minahasa Raya

Sam Ratulangi International Airport is located about 4 kilometres from Manado. The major Indonesian airlines like Garuda Indonesia Airways, Merpati Nusantara, Bouraq Airlines, and Mandala Airlines all have regular domestic flights on a daily basis to/from Manado. Presently, there are two direct international flights to/from Manado: Singapore-Manado (Silk Air) and Davao-Manado (Bouraq Airlines). While it is not an international main gate of entry into Indonesia yet, flights to and from Manado make convenient connections with flights arriving in, and departing from, Jakarta, Denpasar (Bali) and Surabaya.

The following PT PELNI passenger ships will take you to Bitung harbour, which is located in Bitung, about 45 km from Manado. Besides Bitung harbour, there are smaller harbours like Manado, Amurang, Likupang, Tanawangko and Belang served by smaller ships with shorter routes.

The Trans-Sulawesi Road stretches all the way from Manado in the north to Makassar in the south of Sulawesi. Thanks to the trans-Sulawesi road, Minahasa Raya can be reached comfortably by land from other parts of Sulawesi. The road from Palu to Manado is in good condition (except for the first part from Tiboli to Tawaeli). There are guesthouses in Tinombo, Moutong and Marisa (close to Tanjung Panjang reserve, not Marisa close to Sidoan). There are several buses, some with AC, coming from Gorontalo. They take about 12 hours, depending on the weather. Coming from Tentena, the trip takes 2 days.
